Rendering of Ship Design

Man-of-War Powered Tortise Defense Ship
This image is the result of exploring the design of a variety of elements, including Large Tortoise Shells, a Portuguese Man-of-War, and Tower Masts

For the class, we had to take a variety of elements and combine them in a new way. The overall theme I was given was nautical, so combining a Portuguese Man-of-War (as seen in blue at the bottom of the ship and serving as the hull), Giant Tortoise Shells (for the defense of the ship), and Sailing Masts that also processed methane (You’re right- Methane. I don’t know if it is possible or not, but it was the first thing that came to mind) generated from the PMOW were the combined ‘points of departure’ for this nautical vehicle.

This image also saw my use of Adobe Photoshop for the first time. I synthesized the hand-drawn-and-color-marker-rendered ship with an existing photograph provided by the instructors.

Final Layout Development

Octo-Winged Dragon Layout Thumbnail Sketches

This image shows one of the series of layouts I created for the project. I went through these various thumbnail sketches as a process of working on the design until I came up with something that I liked well enough to bring into a more finalized format.

I wanted to capture the ‘drama’ of having this hybrid between an enormous Octopus and a Dragon Fly attack a ship.
