Flying Bald Eagle at Hume Lake – Psalm 103 verse 5

The big picture idea of this painting was to commemorate and celebrate our family’s having gone to Hume Lake. My wife and I had previously been to Hume Lake as a part of other Christian retreats with the church we were attending before we were married. It is a beautiful place, and we were glad and thankful to be able to take our children with us on a home-school group’s outing and to it. Overall, we had fun and enjoyed the stay.

This particular painting shows a bald eagle flying at Hume Lake, moments before it swooped out of the air and grasped a fish with its talons. The beauty of the scene as well as the symbol of strength and precision of the eagle reminds us of Psalm 103:5, which compares God’s good gifts to mankind as renewing one’s strength, “… like the eagle.”

Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Psalm 103:5

The experience was quite incredible, to see in person, a bald eagle eating a fish on the shore after having capturing it.
